A non-firing copy of the Colt classic, used extensively in the Civil War. This piece replicates the original in size, weight and appearance, and the parts function much like the original, even replicating the pivot action for reloading. However, parts cannot be interchanged or the replica made to fire ammunition.
The Colt M1861 Navy cap & ball 0.36-caliber revolver was a six-shot, single-action, percussion weapon produced by Colt's from 1861-73. It incorporated the "creeping" or ratchet loading lever and round barrel of the Army Model of 1860. Like its predecessor, the Colt 1851 Navy Revolver, it saw wide use in the armies of the American Civil War. During the pre-civil war and during the civil war its main competitor was the adams self-cocking revolver. The adams fired a .49 caliber bullet and did not require the hammer to be pulled back. Colt's revolver was more popular because Colt was massed produced and the adamses had to be hand made by skilled craftsmen.
