C-123 Provider History: The C-123 Provider saw extensive service in Vietnam. Besides their airlift assignments, Providers were engaged in spraying the infamous "Agent Orange" that stripped large areas of Vietnamese jungle of foliage depriving enemy infiltrators cover. The C-123 Provider was designed by the Chase Aircraft for the United States Air Force USAF. The C-123 is an assault glider aircraft and served most notably with various armed forces in South East Asia. The first group to receive the C-123 was the USAF transport units followed by the Coast Guard who used the C-123 Provider aircraft for rescue missions. The C-123 could also be the test bed for numerous experimental versions designed at improving its Short Take-Off and landing capabilities. A lot of C-123 Provider variants were produced. The HC-123B is one of the variants which operated with the United States Coast Guard fitted with additional radar equipment for search and rescue missions. The C-123J features retractable skis for operations in Greenland and Alaska.
