It was in its primary trainer role that the De Havilland Tiger Moth made is greatest contribution to the war effort. It provided most of the RAF pilots with their first flying experience and they held it in high esteem.
The DH 82 Tiger Moth was a trainer type aircraft manufactured by de Havilland Aircraft and was designed by Geoffrey de Havilland. Its primary users were the Royal Air Force, Royal Canadian Air Force, RAAF, and other military operators. Its maiden flight was on the 26th of October 1931 and it retired in 1959. It was retired from the military services but it is still in extensive civil use. This aircraft was developed from de Havilland Gipsy Moth.
The main change of the Gipsy Moth was the improvement in accessing the front cockpit. Other changes were its structure, fold down doors, and the upper wing. It has a de Havilland Gipsy III 120 hp engine. On its first flight Chief Test Pilot Hubert Broad was on its controls.
