Albatross DV History: The Albatros DV aircraft entered the service in 1917, being the fighter aircraft used by the Imperial German Air Service, the DV was the final version of Albatros D.I family. The Albatros DV was the last Albatros fighter that was seen in war missions and service. In spite of the Albatros DV’s inadequacy, there were approximately 900 DV's and 1,612 D.Va’s that were built. April 1917, Albatros received an order from Idflieg to improve the current version of D.III. The new and improved Albatros DV aircraft featured a new fuselage of elliptical cross section lighter than the previous one. However, the Albatros DV retained the standard tail surfaces of the D III. The upper wing was repositioned 4.75 inches closer to the fuselage while the lower wings were attached to the fuselage without fairing. Most Albatros DV aircrafts were equipped with the 170 hp Mercedes D IIIa which provides greater quality performance than other aircrafts. The Albatros DV entered service in May 1917 but it encountered a lot of structural problems like wing failures which caused consternation to some pilots. In October 1917, the Albatros DV was reconstructed to solve the wing problem. It featured a metal sleeve to strengthen the lower main spar as well as a small brace connecting the inter plane struts to the leading edge of the lower wing. After reconstruction, performance was improved; the Albatros DV was regarded as the best of all the previous D.I, D.II and the D.III models. But in the latter years of 1917, the Albatros DV was out-powered and outclassed by the development of the S.E.5 fighter.
